    Bring two or more dry point Mylar (plastic) plates (15cmx10cm or larger) for the first class of mono printing, and for later in the semester for drypoint. Printmaking paper (240GSM or heavier), such as Canson edition all purpose printmaking paper, Fabriano Tiepolo, BFK Rives, Arches Vellum, Stonehenge or Hahnumuhle. Lino plates (15cmx15cm or larger), a set of Speedball lino cutting tools and a drypoint etching needle. Rubber or disposable gloves. Some students will find a sketch book and basic drawing materials (pencils, eraser) useful, and/or a cutting blade and mat; scissors. Any cotton rags for cleaning or towel (for blotting paper) are appreciated. Please wear closed in shoes, and clothes or apron to suit use with provided oil based inks. Arrive by 7.45am at the meeting place, as our vehicle has to be ready for loading on the MICat at 8am. Its then a short drive to the MICat terminal at 14 Howard Smith Drive. If you arrive after 8am proceed directly to the MICat ticket office. At the MICat ticket office please identify yourself as being with Alan, Moreton Experience as your ferry fares are paid direct by Moreton Experience.

    Parking: Car parking for the weekend in at the terminal is available for a fee ($45 for the 3 days), or there is on-street parking outside the MiCat terminal (Port of Brisbane security has kept street parking safe to date) If parking on the street do not park where there are yellow lines or you may be booked!

    The Vehicle Ferry: the MICat departs at 8.30 am and takes 90 minutes to cross the Bay. For more information about the MICat visit their website at www.micat.com.au . The MICat lands at The Wrecks just north of Tangalooma and from here we will travel by 4WD to Moreton Experience's campsite at Blue Lagoon. The MICat leaves the island at 6 pm Sunday and arrives back at the terminal at 7.30pm.

    Camping Facilities: The Moreton Experience camp is located right on the ocean beach at the Blue Lagoon National Parks camping ground. Blue Lagoon a large freshwater lake, is just five minutes walk away. Hot shower and toilet are provided by Moreton Experience. Sleeping tents are marquees (3 by 5 metres), walk in style with comfortable stretchers and sleeping mat provided (Sleeping tents are without lights and unscreened). Insects are rarely noticed but remember to bring insect repellent just in case. Expect to share with 1 or at most two others. Participants are welcome to bring their own tents if preferred. The field kitchen has gas stoves,lighting, tables and chairs. A large Marque is the venue for the Art workshop. Dedicated tables are provided for the workshop. Solar powered 240 volt power is available for recharging during daylight hours. For more information on the camp visit the website www.moretonexperience.com

    What is Provided: The cost includes All transfer costs from the Port of Brisbane, Parks camp fees, prepared meals, including vegetarian, from Friday lunch to Sunday lunch. Six hours tuition (two sessions of three hours).

    What to Bring: Bed linen (sleeping bag); pillow; clothing; hat; swimming gear; towel; personal effects; insect repellent; sunscreen; small water bottle; backpack; torch; raincoat; plate; bowl; cup; cutlery;

    Optional: BYO Alcoholic drinks (drinks ice provided); personal tent; air mattress; camera.

    Art Materials: participants are required to bring any art materials they already have and a selection - about 10-20 sheets – of quality drawing papers A4 to A3 in size.

DRAWING & PAINTING

Advanced Pen and Wash (Lizzie Connor)
1 x small set of watercolour paints containing – Cadmium Red Light/or Napthol Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Cadmium Yellow Lights, Ultramarine Blue, Pthalo Blue, Black.   BRUSHES - 2 round synthetic bristle brushes size 3 and 6, and a watercolour mop, water container/rags, 1 x 4b or 6b graphite pencil, 3 fine black felt tip pens, one nib pen or a bamboo pen (available from Eckersleys for around $6.00), one bottle of Parker Quink Ink (from Officeworks for around $11.50, 1 

Charcoal and Shellac (Lizzie Connor)
1 x small box of willow stick charcoal, 2 x sticks of compressed charcoal Or 2 X sticks of black  dry soft pastel (not oil pastel),   1  x warm white artists soft dry pastel, a pencil eraser (for blending and shaping), 1 x A4 Visual diary for notes, sketches and testing of ideas, 4 x A3 sheets of heavyweight drawing paper, 1 x can of fixative or hairspray, and a soft brush (maybe an old make up brush ). Tutor will supply shellac.

Introduction to Charcoal Drawing  (Glen Skien)
For the first lesson a basic list of materials will include : A2 Cartridge Drawing Paper (6 Sheets. This will be the standard paper required for each class); Butchers paper or Newsprint / 6 sheets; Graphite Pencils: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B; Staedtler Eraser (White Hard edge) kneadable eraser; Charcoal: Box of Willow Charcoal sticks or Vine Charcoal (6sticks), 1 Compressed charcoal pencil, 1 Soft charcoal pencil, Compressed charcoal sticks (at least 3 sticks); Two paper Stumps or blenders: (a thick and a thin size); Stanley knife; Bull dog clips; masking tape; 30cm  Wooden ruler; Studio journal for notes / sketching.

PRINTMAKING

Introduction to Printmaking (Glen Skien)
Visual diary or notebook essential for the first lesson.
Participants to purchase the following materials after the first lesson introduction.
Printmaking paper: 220/280gsm: 2 full sheets (no specified brand), 20 sheets A3 size cartridge paper for proofing. Individual resources that can be used as collage elements: photocopies of photographs, light weight papers, coloured rice papers or any ephemeral materials.

Experimenting with Drypoint (Kay Watanabe)
Several pairs of disposable gloves, 2 sheets of printmaking paper heavier than 200gsm (Fabriano, Rives BFK, Hahnemuhle etc. Make sure paper is for printmaking, not watercolour or cartridge paper. Printmaking paper is available at good art supply stores), black or dark coloured paper (A5 or larger, of any thickness and any quality), pencil, eraser, scissors, ruler, craft knife, black pens (fine and thick), a small soft paint brush, white gouache, or a white biro, or a white acrylic pen (such as POSCA pen), masking tape, black and white photocopy of drawings and/or photographs (size of the photocopy should be A6 or A5 – that is a quarter or a half of A4. No original sketches and photos please as we will manipulate them), enclosed shoes, apron or clothes that can be dirtied.x A3 size watercolour paper pad at least 300 gsm (also available from Officeworks.  Canson and Reeves are the recommended brands 1 x A4 visual diary for sketches, ideas, and notes.

Beginners Etching (Gwenn Tasker)
Journal; pencil; eraser; Apron; Closed toe shoes; Box of well-fitting gloves; Nitryl gloves for handling acids and solvents; Fume mask, safe for chemicals and dust; A set of cheap nylon bristle paintbrushes of various sizes; Some old rough hard bristle paintbrushes of various sizes; Cheap etching needle (available from the Art Shed or Eckersley’s); Scraper and burnisher (there are tools which have one on each end); Sharpies of various thicknesses; wax crayons; chinagraph pencils; 3 or 4 small jam/vegemite size jars; Old sheets or cloths to use as rags to clean etching plates; Cheap etching paper for proofing (can be purchased from tutor at BIA.
